How to Clean Oil Off Carhartt Boots

The right procedure and products will help you get that stain off your leather boots.

Carhartt boots are typically made of leather and are for work, hunting, hiking or other outdoor activities. Leather boots will last you for many seasons if they are given the proper care. Removing stains from leather boots is often a chore; but if a stain is not removed quickly, it may become a permanent fixture on your costly boots. Oil stains can be particularly troublesome to clean off leather boots, but the stains can be removed if treated immediately with the right products.

Things You'll Need

• Leather protector
• Soft, absorbent cloth or paper towels
• Talcum powder
• Shoe brush or an old toothbrush

Instructions

1. Protect your Carhartt boots from stains and weather conditions by applying a leather protector available at the Carhartt website or at any store that sells leather boots. Do this before you wear them the first time. Often, the leather protector has a stain repellent built into it that will help you remove stains more efficiently. The leather protector will provide a barrier against dirt, moisture and grease.

2. Absorb most of any oil that gets on your boots immediately with a soft absorbent cloth or paper towels. It will be much easier to get rid of any remaining oil residue if you soak it up right away.

3. Sprinkle a heavy application of white talcum powder onto the stained leather of your Carhartt boot. Allow it to set overnight or at least for several hours. The powder will absorb any remaining oil or grease spot on the boot.

4. Dust the talcum powder off the boot the next morning or after several hour. If any powder remains in the seams of the boot, you can rub it off with a shoe brush or even an old toothbrush.
