How to Send Online Checks
Making an online payment means transferring money from your account to the company or institution you owe. An online check works in almost the same way as an online credit card transaction. To send online checks, you must be paying for something that accepts online check payments. If whatever you are paying does not list online checks as a payment option, you'll need to find another way to pay. If it does, it is easy to pay with an online check.

1
Choose the "Pay by Check," "Online Check" or "Pay with Checking Account" option at the payment site in question. You might be paying for a bill, a loan payment, or even an item you are purchasing online.
-
2
Enter your full name. Sometimes sites require your address and telephone number or driver's license number. This is the same information found on the top of most regular checks.
-
-
3
Enter your checking account number when prompted. You can find this at the bottom of an actual check from your checkbook. It is the second number listed.
-
4
Type in your routing number when prompted. This is also found on your printed checks; it's typically the first number listed at the bottom of your check.
-
5
Choose a check number. If you choose a number that is lower or higher than the numbers you are using, you will not have to cancel one of your current checks.

Tips & Warnings
If you are writing a large online check, it is often a good idea to call your bank and notify them of the transaction so it doesn't raise any flags.
Many places will let you choose a date for your online check, so you can post-date it if you'd like.
