How to Open Your Own Daycare Business
Daycare owners nurture and teach young children (typically kindergarten age or younger). These businesses may also care for children after school. A daycare business needs to create a space that will foster a child's development while keeping them safe. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand in this industry is expected to increase in coming years. (See References 2)

1
Contact state or local officials for licensing requirements and to request needed applications. Most states require daycare providers to get licensed with them. This may require completing a state-sponsored class that typically lasts several hours.
-
2
Purchase supplies for your daycare business. You will need to purchase a crib for each infant and a nap mat for each older preschooler. Childproof your site with safety devices such as electrical-outlet covers, baby gates, and tamperproof latches and locks. Developmentally appropriate toys for each age group will also be needed.

-
3
Arrange for any required inspections by state or local authorities. Request a checklist to prepare for the inspection, one that details such things as number of fire extinguishers or childproofing safety devices.
-
4
Submit a background check as required. If you run a home daycare service, all members of your family over the age of 18 may need to consent to this.
-
5
Market your daycare center to prospective parents. Post flyers at local shopping centers, community centers, and civic organizations. Talk with the human resources managers at local businesses and ask to leave childcare information for the information of employees.
