Installing a Water Filter System for a Whole House

Installing a Water Filter System for a Whole House thumbnail
Water filters help provide good clean drinking water.

Getting good clean drinking water is becoming more of a challenge. For homes not supplied by city water, this is especially true. Most homes outside the city's water area must use wells to supply their water. The problem with well water is the sediment and other contaminants that can be delivered to the home. These contaminants can clog pipes and damage equipment such as washing machines and dish washers. A solution to this problem is a whole house filtration system. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the main water line to the house. Determine where the whole house filter will go.

    • 2

Turn off the water supply and relieve the pressure by turning on the faucets until the water stops flowing.

    • 3

Cut the main supply line at the point where the whole house filter will be located. Most filter kits come with the adapters for connecting the whole house filter to the main supply line. These filters usually have an arrow indicating the proper direction of flow. The arrow should point towards the home unless the kit instructions say otherwise. Attach the main supply hose from the well to the inlet (input) side of the filter. Connect the main distribution line, which runs to the house, to the outlet (output) side of the filter. Tighten all connections.
