How to Plan a Country Home Decorating Party
Giving a party can be an entertaining way to earn extra money when you sell home décor products. Several direct sales companies offer country home decorations and the party model for generating income, including Southern Living, At Home America and Celebrations by Lillian Vernon. If you like to entertain, planning the party can be almost as enjoyable as the party itself.

1
Invite to your party everyone you know who might be interested and suggest that they bring a friend. Since your income is based on sales, the more people you have at your country home decorating party, the more sales you are likely to make.
-
2
Have plenty of inventory on hand. People are more likely to make purchases if they can see and touch the décor they are contemplating purchasing. Offer the most popular items.
-
3
Set up your home to accommodate the number of people invited. People should have room to sit, mingle and look at the products that you have out. Move coffee tables and knickknacks to another room, as coffee tables restrict movement and knickknacks will distract from the décor you are selling. As it is a country decorating party, remove any artwork, such as pop art, that detracts from this theme.
-
4
Prepare food for your guests. Appetizers can keep guests circulating if you place some on opposite sides of the party room or rooms. A fruit tray, miniature quiches, cheese and crackers and chocolate-dipped strawberries make good appetizers. For drinks, serve an inexpensive sparkling punch.
-
5
Select some soft music to play that will add to the ambience, but will not be a distraction from your presentation and the products. Jazz, classical or country music selections played at a low volume is appropriate.
-
6
Prepare some games for your guests. You can relate them to your country decorating theme, or play simple icebreakers, for example, seeing who has the most of a given list of items in her purse. Have some small prizes on hand. These give-aways will tie in well if the prizes are related to your country decorating theme or are actual products from the line you represent.
-
7
Keep the business side of your party short and informal. Ten or 15 minutes is long enough to explain your products and any company-related opportunities. Have plenty of decorating catalogs on hand to encourage guests to browse products at their leisure.
-
8
Offer a door prize. Give attendees tickets when they come in, and let it be known that you will be giving away a country home décor door prize in one hour. This will encourage guests to stay long enough to look at what you have to offer and hear your presentation.
