Install USB drivers with Windows Device Manager.

The Window XP operating system supports USB devices attached to your computer. USB devices include flash drives, iPods, external hard drives and other hot-swappable electronics. USB 2.0 is the standard for the devices you connect to the machine. You can add USB device drivers to a Windows XP machine through the system Control Panel. The device driver files are provided by a USB device manufacturer or a downloaded update from Microsoft.

Instructions

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Run." Enter "Devmgmt.msc" and click "OK." This opens the Windows Device Manager.

    • 2

    • 3

Select "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and click "Next." The USB drivers install on the system. Click "Finish" to complete the installation.
