How to Mount Needlepoint

How to Mount Needlepoint thumbnail
Needlework projects should be mounted and framed.

Fine needlepoint deserves special and careful treatment during the mounting and framing process. A needlepoint project is the result of many hours of diligent work and should be displayed proudly with care. Properly mounted, a framed work of needlepoint will not fray or sag and will endure for many years as a testament to the vision and dedication of the needlepoint artist. Your needlepoint will be a visible reminder of your skills for future generations.

Instructions

    • 1

Carefully measure your completed needlepoint project. Choose a frame the size of the needlepoint. Iron the needlepoint carefully to make sure all wrinkles are gone, spraying gently with water if needed.

    • 2

Spray the adhesive on the mounting board and carefully apply the needlepoint, making sure it is centered. Smooth the needlepoint.

    • 3

Cut off the excess fabric of the needlepoint project to 1/4 inch beyond the edge of the mounting board. Apply masking tape to the edges of the fabric as close to the edge of the mounting board as possible on the front of the fabric. Fold the masking tape over the board and to the back.

    • 4

Spray the needlework with the fabric protector. Insert the mounted needlework in the frame. Discard the frame glass.
