How to Get Vinyl Wallpaper off a Drywall
Changing the decor in the bathroom or kitchen sometimes includes removing the vinyl wallpaper. You can paint over vinyl wallpaper but if the wallpaper seams are pulling from the wall, it is best to remove the wallpaper before painting. Painting over peeling vinyl wallpaper could result in the wallpaper peeling from the wall with the paint on it. Removing vinyl wallpaper off the drywall will be tedious, but less work will be involved should you choose to re-wallpaper, texture your wall or simply paint. Lift the wallpaper at the seams using a 3-inch flat putty knife.

Peel the vinyl wallpaper from the drywall by grasping the wallpaper at the lifted seams. The vinyl comes away from the backing leaving the backing and the adhesive on the drywall.

Mix 2-cups of vinegar and 1-cup of water. Pour this mixture into a spray bottle and spray the paper backing and the adhesive until soaked. Work in three to six foot square sections at a time, and allow the spray to sit for two minutes.

Scrape the paper backing and the adhesive from the wall using your putty knife.
