      Complete eight hours of instruction approved by the Louisiana Department of Insurance, or DOI. Half of those hours must be instruction regarding bail enforcement. Every two years after that you will also have to complete 12 hours of DOI approved continued education credits. Contact the Louisiana Department of Insurance for a list of approved training locations.

      Submit a completed Louisiana Producer's Application, Form 1136A. The form is submitted through SIRCON. If you have a conviction for an offense other then a minor traffic violation, you must also submit record of the offense and an explanation of the circumstances surrounding the event. There is a seventy-five dollar non-refundable fee that must be paid upon submission.

      Schedule and complete an insurance examination through the Prometric website. Prometric also offers online practice exams for a fee of twenty-five dollars.

      Decide where you will do business from. Rent a location in a high traffic area to receive immediate recognition by potential customers. Many established bail bond businesses rent locations in close proximity to the jail they will work with the most.

      Establish a business name and register it with the Louisiana Department of Revenue online.

      Trademark your business name with the Louisiana Secretary of State. Complete and mail in the Assignment Of Trade Name, Trademark or Service Mark form. Include a money order for fifty dollars. Send it to Commercial Division, P. O. Box 94125, Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9125.
