How to Put a Photo on a Quilt
Making a quilt is an endeavor that takes time and effort, especially if the quilt's design is intricate. But homemade quilts make thoughtful gifts and are beautiful items to have around the home. Make your quilt even more personal by adding photos of friends and family, either before the squares are assembled or after they are assembled but before the blanket is quilted.

1
Adjust the size of your picture so that it will fit in the desired place on the quilt. You can do this by using the photo software that comes standard on most computers.
-
2
Load the photo transfer paper into your printer. Select "Print" from the "File" menu.
-
-
3
Click "Properties" in the pop-up "Print" dialog box. Select the "Advanced" tab from the window that pops up.
-
4
Select the "Mirrored Image" option. This will flip your picture when it is printed so that when you transfer the picture onto your quilt it is in the original direction, ensuring that all words and numbers aren't backwards. Click "OK."
-
5
Print your image onto your photo transfer paper.
-
6
Heat your iron to the setting specified on the transfer paper package, usually medium or high, with the steam function off.
-
7
Iron any wrinkles out of the quilt and let the fabric cool before continuing.
-
8
Place the photo transfer paper onto the quilt, picture side down, so the picture is positioned where you want it on your quilt.
-
9
Place the iron on the back of the paper and gently move the iron over the image for the amount of time instructed on the packaging, usually 30 to 45 seconds. Peel away the paper while it is still warm from the iron.

Tips & Warnings
You can add photos to the fabric you want to use to make the quilt or to completed quilt squares. You cannot, however, add photos to a quilt after it has been quilted as the thread from the quilting will cause problems with the photo adhering to the fabric.
