Use a soldering iron to affix a metal ring to stained glass.

Stained glass is a decorative addition to any home. It can be installed in place of window glass, framed or hung on existing windows. Hanging the glass art on an existing window requires affixing a metal ring to the art. Stained glass is made by cutting pieces of glass, lining the glass with adhesive copper strips and soldering them together with a thick metal solder. This metal solder can be used as a base to affix metal rings.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in the soldering iron, and allow it to heat up fully.

    • 2

Clip the metal ring onto an alligator clip of the third hand. Prop up the stained glass until it touches the metal ring in the desired position.

    • 3

Apply flux to where the edge of the glass and the metal ring touch.

    • 4

Touch the soldering iron to the place where the flux was applied to solder it.

    • 5

When a large bead of solder is formed, remove the solder spool and allow the solder bead to flow over the metals, sealing the joint.

    • 6

Repeat steps 2 through 5 until all rings are affixed.
