How to Tie a Flag to a Flagpole
Flags are used to represent all the different nations and people of the world. They have been used throughout history to improve military morale and to show support of national military troops, especially during times of war. Flags are present today in front of municipal buildings and historic monuments to remind us of the concept of our union with our fellow countrymen. They are an integral part of our culture and they serve to bring us closer together as a people.

1
Locate the halyard line on your flagpole, it looks like a rope. Meet the ends of the halyard line together and tie a basic knot.
-
2
Hold your flag beside the halyard line. Look for the grommet holes on the flag and see where they would line up in relation to the halyard line if the knot sits in the middle of the two grommet holes.
-
-
3
Put the flag aside temporarily and gather your snap hooks. Place the first snap hook where the first grommet hole was, and the second snap hook where the second grommet hole was.
-
4
Place the halyard line between your thumb and index finger at the point where the first grommet hole matches up. Squeeze your fingers together to make the halyard line bunch up, forming a loop or a peak.
-
5
Place this loop through the eye of the snap hook and push it all the way through until the top of the loop is at the end of the snap hook.
-
6
Pull the loop over the end of the snap hook and pull the halyard line that is threaded through the eye, until the loop is going around the eye of the snap hook and back through, heading towards the rest of the halyard line.
-
7
Connect the second snap hook the same way that you did the first but in position in accordance with the second grommet hole point.
-
8
Attach the flag by opening the snap hook gates, placing the grommets in between the gates and closing the gates.
