How to Change a Screen Name on Windows Messenger

Windows Live Messenger, previously known as "MSN Messenger," is one of the more popular instant messaging programs. With a Windows Live, Hotmail or MSN email account, you can sign in to Windows Live Messenger from any computer and chat with your friends. Your screen name in the program is editable; you can change it to anything you want. Changing your screen name will not cause you to lose contact with your friends. The name change will simply update on their messenger.

Instructions

1. Open the Windows Live Messenger program and sign in with your ID and password.

2. Click on your screen name next to your instant messaging icon. You'll see the screen name field become highlighted.

3. Type your new screen name. Click outside of the screen name box to get save the name change.

Tips & Warnings

• Changing your Windows Live Messenger screen name applies to other applications as well. For example, if you use your Windows Live account to chat on the Xbox 360 messenger, the screen name is updated there as well.
