Homemade Vitamin E Oil Lotion

Homemade Vitamin E Oil Lotion thumbnail
Homemade lotion is simple, and cost effective

Commercially-made lotions and creams can be very expensive, full of chemicals and not as good as the ones you can make at home with a few simple ingredients. The secret to making lotions at home is based on the same principle as making homemade mayonnaise: you beat an oil base with a non-oil base which reacts to form a creamy liquid---one we put on our sandwiches, the other on our skin. Making a vitamin E oil lotion is a simple first-time lotion making project, especially as vitamin E oil is great for the skin and is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place the almond oil, steric acid and beeswax into a double boiler pot over medium heat until the wax is melted and the ingredients are fully combined.

    • 2

Heat the distilled water on the stove in the other pot until boiling.

    • 3

Place the water into the bowl if using hand beaters, or into the food processor. Slowly add the almond oil mixture to the water while beating continually.

    • 4

Keep blending the mixture until it cools somewhat, then cut the vitamin E oil capsules and add the oil, discarding the gel capsule shell. Blend all the while.

    • 5

Pour the lotion into the clean and dry jar once it has reached a thick enough consistency.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vitamin E shouldn't be used excessively, which is why the sweet almond oil, already naturally high in vitamin E, is used as the base oil, with the vitamin E oil as an additive.

  • Add a few drops of essential oil while mixing to scent the lotion.
