How to Teach Yourself Spanish Conversation
Because Spanish is often spoken at a fast pace, it can be difficult for English speakers to fully understand and attempt to speak to a native Spanish speaker. But with some good learning materials as well as some exposure to Spanish-language media, it's possible to teach yourself Spanish conversation. You should start by learning written Spanish, then proceed to learning the pronunciation of important Spanish verbs, nouns and adjectives.

Find a good Spanish textbook. You can find one at a local college bookstore, on websites such as Amazon.com and Borders.com, your public library and sometimes at neighborhood garage sales. Spanish textbooks are good resources because they often give detailed chapters on how to conjugate and pronounce verbs and they also give plenty of examples of how conversations are carried out in Spanish.

Watch Spanish-language media. One popular Spanish cable network is Univision. This channel has prime-time soap operas, news programs and reality shows that often feature catchy titles that give you ideas on what the topics are about. Even if you can't understand everything that's said on the programs, you're still progressing if you can pick up bits and pieces of what's going on.

Practice writing and speaking phrases in Spanish. This gives you an idea of how you would say certain words and phrases in Spanish. It also reinforces the lessons you learned so far. Write a few sentences in Spanish in the form of a dialogue between two people. Then get a friend to play one part and play the other part yourself in the conversation.

Visit YouTube. This site also has some audio clip series where you can learn how to have conversations in Spanish. Some series are divided into parts while others are not.
