How to Fix the Virtual Memory in XP

Virtual memory is space on your hard drive that your Windows XP machine uses when it does not have enough physical memory to use. At times, you may start to run into virtual memory errors when you launch and run applications on your computer. Do not fret. You can easily increase the size of your virtual memory with about two minutes of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button in the bottom-left corner of your desktop. Scroll up and right-click "My Computer."

    • 2

Click the "Advanced" tab. Hit the "Settings" button. Click the "Advanced" tab and then click the "Change" button in the Virtual memory section of the window.

    • 3

Double the number in the "Initial size" field. Make the "Maximum size" field number double the "Initial size" number. Hit the "OK" button. Close all windows and restart your computer.
