How to Rip DVDs to AVI
Ripping a DVD means that you take the video file on it and put it on your computer's hard drive in a format you can use without the original DVD, such as the AVI format. There are some programs you can download and try out for free from the Internet that let you use your DVD drive to "rip" the video from the DVD movie disk of your choice.

Download and install Format Factory (see "Resources" section for link). Click on the tab with "DVD" in it on the main program screen and click "DVD to video file." Select your DVD from the drop-down at the top, select "AVI" from the "Output Format" menu and click "Convert" to begin ripping your DVD to AVI.

Install and open Easy DVD Rip for another program (see "Resources" section for link). Use the "Convert Main Title" button to begin, select your DVD from the drop-down menu at the top and select "AVI" under "Output Options." Click the right arrow at the bottom of the page and click the start button in the next window to begin ripping a DVD in your drive.

Load AoA DVD Ripper after installing (see "Resources" section for link). Click on the "Load DVD" button to select the DVD you want to rip. Select "AVi" under the "Convert to" menu. Click "Start" to begin ripping.
