Getting a commercial real estate license in Maryland requires a great deal of time, effort and dedication. Prospective applicants must put themselves through hours of pre-licensing education just to be allowed to take the state's final examination. Applicants also must have a job with a licensed broker lined up before they are able to be licensed. However, once you are licensed to sell commercial real estate in Maryland---such as storefronts, restaurants and office buildings---the career is one that can promise steady employment for the license holder.
Complete basic real estate education. In Maryland, each license applicant must take 60 hours of pre-licensing education. Included in those 60 hours must be three hours of ethics study. The courses can be taken in a classroom, online over the Internet or via home study. The state will allow college students to use real estate-related courses as part of their 60 hours.
Take and pass the Maryland real estate license examination. You can schedule an exam time with the Maryland Real Estate Commission. You will also need to pay a $115 licensing fee.
Obtain a commitment in writing from a licensed real estate broker that you will be affiliated with that broker upon becoming licensed.
