How to Troubleshoot a Maytag Washing Machine That Does Not Fill

Save

Most of the time, Maytag washing machine filling problems are related to the water supply. Water supply issues can be due to a lack of water, a kinked hose or clogged filters. Filling trouble can also be related to power supply—the washer needs power to operate the fill valves. A Maytag washing machine that does not fill can be troubleshot. There are also error messages that can help.

Things You'll Need

  • Toothpicks
  • Look for error messages on the display. Error F20 means there are water inlet problems. Problems can include no water or insufficient water. Cancel the cycle by pressing “Power/Cycle” twice and check that the water faucets are turned on completely—if the tap has a straight handle, it should line up in the direction of the hose.

  • Look for kinks in the hoses and untwist the hoses. The hose must not be trapped under the machine. Free it if it is. Turn the machine on again and try another cycle.

  • Unclog the filters. There are screens at the inlet hose to the washer. Turn the water off and unscrew the hose. Use a toothpick to carefully clean out any grunge. Don’t poke holes in the screens. There may also be filters at the wall end too. Follow the same procedure there too.

  • Check the power supply to the washer. If the display panel won’t illuminate that’s a good indication there’s a lack of power keeping the fill valves from operating. Check that the washing machine is plugged in, and that the door or lid is closed.
