How to Build Your Own King Size Bed Frame
A king bed covers a large footprint in your bedroom, in many cases dominating the space. For this reason, you want a king bed frame to be nice. Unfortunately, king bed frames can be very expensive. However, you can build a low-lying platform frame that lifts the bed just high enough to allow air flow. This makes the bed and its coverings the real showpiece in your room, allowing you to save your money for other things. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 5 beams, 4 inches by 4 inches by 80 inches
- 8 planks, 1 inch by 10 inches by 76 inches
- 40 wood screws, 2 inches long
- Power drill
- Sandpaper
Instructions

Set two beams parallel to each other with their ends aligned. The outside edges of the beams should be 75 inches apart.

Set the remaining three beams evenly spaced between the first two, also parallel and with ends aligned.

Lay one plank across the beams with its ends aligned with the outside edges of the first two beams. Slide it down until its outside edge is aligned with the ends of the beam. Screw it in place with one wood screw per beam.

Lay the second plank next to and flush against the first. Screw it in place with one screw per beam. Continue laying down and screwing in planks until the beams are covered.

Sand all exposed faces of your lumber.

Tips & Warnings
You can paint or stain this frame if you like but the surfaces will be obscured by the mattress and bedclothes.
