How to Get Rid of the Bear Search Toolbar

How to Get Rid of the Bear Search Toolbar thumbnail
BearShare Media Bar is known to include malware.

The BearShare application is a peer-to-peer file sharing system distributed by MusicLab. BearShare is installed as an add-in along with other programs, and the software is known to include Trojans, viruses and malware. The Bear Search Toolbar does not appear in the Toolbars section of the available Internet browsers. Instead, the Bear Search Toolbar is a stand-alone application and must be removed using the Add/Remove Programs functionality in the Control Panel of Windows operating systems.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select the "Control Panel" option to launch the Control Panel.

    • 2

Click the "Programs and Features" option in the Control Panel interface.

    • 3

Locate and highlight the "BearShare Media Bar" option.

    • 4

Click the "Uninstall" button, or right-click the entry and select "Uninstall" from the context menu. The BearShare Media Bar will then be uninstalled.

    • 5

      Reboot the computer.

    • 6

Open Internet Explorer and click "Tools," then click "Internet Options."

    • 7

Click the "General" tab and delete the BearShare default home page URL in the text box.

    • 8

Click the "OK" button to save the settings. Close and reopen Internet Explorer. BearShare will be disabled and uninstalled.

Tips & Warnings

  • If other browsers, such as Firefox or Opera, are installed on the computer, be sure to delete BearShare from the default homepage field in Internet Options.

  • If the BearShare application is not completely uninstalled after the above steps are completed, a Java file that reinstalls the malware may be stored in the Firefox profile for the user. Delete the "user.js" file from the Firefox user profile and reboot the computer (See Resources for working with Firefox Profiles).
