How to Clean Porcelain Cast-Iron Grates
Found in gas and charcoal grills, porcelain cast-iron grates have the same grilling qualities as other types of cast-iron core grates and are stronger than traditional grill grates. But when it comes to cleaning porcelain cast-iron grates, you can't use regular grill-cleaning chemicals and tools to remove caked-on debris. The finish on porcelain cast-iron grates is brittle and easily damaged if you use an abrasive cleaner or brush. Fortunately, non-abrasive materials can get the job done. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings
If your porcelain cast-iron grate is still not completely clean, wipe the grate with a damp cloth or rag, then apply 1 tbsp. of an non-abrasive cleaner to the wet grate. Scrub the grate gently with a plastic mesh scrubber to loosen any heavy grime spots. Rinse the grate with warm water, then dry the grate with a clean cloth or rag.
After cleaning, spray the grate with cooking spray to coat the porcelain finish.
Wear latex gloves to keep your hands clean.
When removing debris from your porcelain cast-iron grate while the grate is hot, use a brass-bristled grill brush or scrubber-type brush. These brushes are soft and won't scratch and damage the porcelain finish.
