How to Care for Bunnies
Having a bunny for a pet is a long-term commitment. Healthy, well-cared for rabbits can live for 10 years and sometimes longer. Bunnies require more care and attention than commonly believed. Like any other pet, they need attention and interaction with you along with the basics. The reward is a friendly, playful companion.
Instructions

-
1
Purchase a cage at least six times the size of your rabbit when it stretches. Bunnies need plenty of room to move and hop around. Provide a hiding place and toys in the cage.
-
2
Clean the cage at least once every week. Remove soiled litter and wipe all surfaces with a pet safe cleaner. Clean the rabbit's food and water dishes daily.
-
-
3
Allow your bunny unlimited access to timothy, orchard or oat hay and supplement with high-quality pellets that have a low fat and protein content. Rabbits tend to over-eat if given constant access to pellets, so limit them to the recommended amount for their size. Provide plenty of fresh vegetables and greens, while reserving fruits, nuts and seeds for treats.
-
4
Provide constant access to fresh, clean water in a spill-proof dish or water bottle. Change the water every day.
-
5
Spend time with your pet rabbit. If you can, allow the bunny out of the cage for four hours a day. Make sure any rooms your rabbit has access to have no electrical cords or other dangers in reach.
-
6
Spay or neuter your bunny to reduce health risks and eliminate behavioral issues, such as spraying. Keep a veterinarian lined up for any health emergencies. Watch for changes in eating and drinking habits for signs of health problems.
-
7
Brush your rabbit several times a week and trim its nails once a month. Provide hard toys to maintain your rabbit's teeth.

Tips & Warnings
Consider litter training your bunny to reduce accidents during free time spent outside of the cage.
Keep your rabbits inside to increase their well-being and health.
Avoid wire-bottomed cages. Bunnies have sensitive feet and the wires can injure them.
Don't bathe your rabbit or use flea medication. Use a flea comb if it has fleas.
Don't pick your rabbit up by the ears or neck. Support the back legs whenever you pick up or carry your bunny.
