How to Say No to a Job Offer
If you have the good fortune to have a job you enjoy and pays well, you may occasionally receive job offers you do not want. You should be careful about how you respond, however. Don't just blow off these offers as in the future you might be looking for a new job. Burning bridges is never a good idea. You can say no to a job offer without being rude.

1
Contact the individual who offered you the job in a timely manner. You do not want to wait a week or more, as it would be inconsiderate to expect the job to be held open for you. Your lack of response might be taken for a rude way of saying no.
-
2
Contact the individual in the same way he contacted you. If you received an email, reply by email that you are declining the position. Make a phone call if the company called you.
-
-
3
Express appreciation for the job offer. Even if you didn't think the job was all that great, thank the the individual or employer for the offer. They are more likely to keep your information on file for future positions.
-
4
Explain your current circumstances and why you are unable to take a new position. Perhaps you just started in a new job or family reasons prevent you from moving. Don't tell the company you didn't like the job or are overqualified for the position (even if you are).
-
5
End the conversation or e-mail on a good note by thanking the company again.
