How to Upgrade Windows Me for Free
Windows Me, also known as Windows Millennium Edition, is an operating system made by Microsoft. As with many of its predecessors, you can upgrade your copy of Windows ME for free. As long as you have an Internet connection, you can obtain the upgrade through a standard download from Microsoft.

Click the "Start" button, then choose "Control Panel" from the pop-up menu.

Double-click the "System" icon in the Control Panel window. A small display window appears on the screen.

Choose the "Automatic Updates" tab on the program screen and click "Performance and Maintenance."

Click "System" and click the "Automatic Updates" tab. Once the new display appears, check off "Automatic Updates" and click "Apply." The computer will connect to the Microsoft online network (without launching an Internet browser) and look for any updates for the system. If any are available, a prompt will appear, asking you to download the updates. Click the prompt, and the information automatically downloads and installs to your computer. Depending on the upgrade, you may be asked to shut down and restart your computer.
