How to Draw Manga Animals: Cats
Manga animals are cartoon animals drawn in Japanese-animation style (anime). They have friendly, human-like features, and are usually brightly colored and small. The key to drawing manga cats is to use as many basic shapes as possible to form the cat's outline and features, before adding the telltale manga details--such as accessories or reflection stars. A well-known example of a manga cat is Luna from the show Sailor Moon.

Sketch a circle on a piece of drawing paper using a pencil. The circle should be as small or as large as you'd like the manga cat's head to be. Draw a smaller circle inside the head to represent the general nose area, located within the bottom half of the head circle.

Add two small triangle shapes on the top of the head circle for the ears.

Draw in the facial features of the manga cat. The eyes should be large and should contain small reflection diamonds or stars in the irises. The nose should be a tiny upside-down triangle. The mouth should be a perky, crescent-moon-shaped smile.

Sketch the outline of the cat's body directly beneath the head. Keeping the shape as simple as possible, create limbs with smooth, half-circle edges--as well as a long slim tail. Three small lines can be used at the bottom of the feet to represent claws.

Add in any extra accessories you'd like your manga cat to have, such as capes, crowns, or collars.

Use the side of your pencil to shade the manga cat in, using whatever fur-color pattern you'd like. Creating a realistic fur-like effect is not necessary. In fact, it's better to keep the coloring even toned, which is how cartoons are shaded.

Use an eraser to remove any overlapping lines.
