Natural Way to Get Rid of Fleas in My House
Finding out you have fleas in the house is frightening. Not only do fleas feed on the blood of your pets, they also bite humans as well. You must get rid of fleas inside the home after you have gotten rid of the ones on your pet. Otherwise, your pet will become infested again. Flea bombs and various other commercial flea killers are available; however, these products often contain toxic ingredients that may be harmful to your pet and your family. Things You'll Need
- Vacuum cleaner
- Plastic bag
- Steam cleaner
- Empty spray bottle
- 8 oz. filtered water
- 10 to 20 drops citronella essential oil
- 10 to 20 drops rosemary essential oil
- Diatomaceous Earth
- Lemon

Vacuum the house thoroughly. Carpets, upholstery, hard floors, furniture, around baseboards, curtains and rugs must all be vacuumed. Empty the vacuum bag or canister outdoors into a plastic bag and seal it up immediately after vacuuming.

Steam clean curtains, upholstery, carpets, rugs and any other soft items that may contain fleas or eggs. Removable slipcovers, dog bedding and any other washable items must be washed in the hottest water allowed for the fabric.

Fill an empty spray bottle with 8 oz. filtered water. Add about 10 to 20 drops each of rosemary and citronella essential oils. Shake the bottle to combine the ingredients.

Spray the mixture onto carpets, upholstery, curtains, furniture, around baseboards and any other areas in the home where you have noticed fleas. This mixture is not toxic and can be sprayed anywhere in the home.

Sprinkle diatomaceous earth throughout the house as well. It is nontoxic and can be purchased at most health food stores. Spread the powder on carpets, furniture, around baseboards, on hard surfaces and anywhere else in the house where you suspect fleas. Let it sit for 24 hours and then vacuum up the powder.

Cut a lemon into quarters and place it in a pint of boiling water. Let it sit overnight. Spray the lemon water throughout the house and even on your pet the next day to remove fleas.

Tips & Warnings
Also clean baseboards, small crevices in cabinets, upholstery and furniture, carpets and humid, cool areas of the home, as fleas tend to gravitate towards these types of places.
