Preparation for the CNA Test
Certified nursing assistants work in a variety of settings including hospitals, private homes and skilled nursing facilities. Nursing assistants who have completed a nursing assistants training program are eligible to take the certification exam administered by the state board of nursing. The exam is designed to assess the applicant's knowledge and skills in patient care. There are resources that can help you prepare for the CNA test.

1
Study your training course manual. Going over the material you learned during training is a good way to keep the information fresh in your mind.
-
2
Take practice tests. There are resources online for CNA practice exams (see resources). Testing yourself shows how well you know the material you studied in training. You might surprise yourself.
-
-
3
Practice patient care with a friend. Find a willing helper to let you practice some of the manual skills like transfers, assisted ambulation, oral care and making an occupied bed.
-
4
Study video lessons on various topics like bed-making, bathing and ambulation with a gait belt. Nursing Assistant Central has some video lessons for study.
-
5
Practice proper hand washing. The required time for hand washing is at least 20 seconds. Practicing with an egg timer will help you perform the skill correctly. This is one area where students fail the test.
