Instructions

    • 1

Remove the lid from the shoebox and take apart the bottom piece. Use a butter knife to pry open the edges of the box, especially where the box is glued together. Set the bottom of the box to one side while you take apart the lid, once again using the butter knife to pry open the glued pieces.

    • 2

Use the disassembled box as a template for your fabric. Lay your fabric flat and place the box on top. Trace around the edges of the box with a pencil, giving yourself an extra ½ inch to 1 inch on all sides. Remove the box and cut out the fabric shape, following the lines you just traced. Repeat the process for the lid.

    • 3

Coat the outside of the box with spray adhesive and lay the fabric on top of it. Press down on the fabric, gently smoothing it out towards the sides to remove any air bubbles. Repeat the process for the lid.

    • 4

Spray the inside edges of the box with spray adhesive. Pull the fabric over the sides and press down until the adhesive sets. Repeat the process for the lid, then reassemble the box by pushing the flaps into place and adding adhesive if necessary.

    • 5

Adhere ribbons or other decorations to the box with fabric glue. Use your pencil to mark where you want each decoration. Add a small dollop of glue and press down on the decoration until the glue sets.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can’t find a shoebox, any type of box with a lid will work. Just make sure that the box is big enough to hold wedding invitations and greeting cards.

  • Try using contrasting fabrics for the lid and bottom of the box, such as a bright pink bottom and lime green lid.
