How to Make a Creative Resume

How to Make a Creative Resume thumbnail
A creative resume is a way to secure an interview.

Everyone wants a resume that will separate them from the competition and help to secure at least an interview with a potential employer. But how can you write a resume that not only gives you an interview but also gives you the edge to be ahead of all the other applicants? If you're applying for a job that requires creativity, your resume needs to be smart and creative to allow you to sell yourself while writing within the boundaries of appropriate business style.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the resume with your name and contact information. Follow it up with an "Objectives" section, describing what your main objective is going to be at that company. In the next section, list your qualifications. Make it apparent why those specific qualifications made you special at your previous job, and include any awards or honors you received because of your work. Also list your work and education and experience in two more sections, followed by a "Skills" section. Write "references will be given upon request" at the bottom.

    • 2

Choose an appropriate color. If you are applying for a job in art or design, you can use your resume to show off your skills. You can spice up your resume by giving it an unorthodox layout. For instance, if you are applying for a job in graphic design, use your resume to show what you are capable of by using different shapes or colors.

    • 3

Choose a theme. Your resume needs to make a statement about yourself as an employee. Using the graphic design example, you could show each section listing your qualifications in a different square, and design them to look good together on paper.

    • 4

Choose a font (or fonts) to make yourself stand out. Without using fonts that are so altered they are difficult to read, find something that flows with your theme and design.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use these tips if your future employer seems conventional. Using these ideas will only benefit those going into art and design fields.

  • Do not give your resume a scent. For all you know, your employer may be allergic to what you used.
