How to Make a Lasso
A lasso is a rope that has a running noose on the end. The knot that creates the running noose is called a honda knot, and the act of tying it is often referred to as "tying a honda." It is not that difficult to tie, but practice will make it easier. While you'll want to practice on soft household rope, lassos should be made from lasso or lariat rope so that they will be strong enough to be used. The method of tying is the same regardless of what rope you use.

1
Tie an overhand knot by created a 2 inch loop about 6 inches from the rope's end. The end section should be under the main rope when creating this loop. Pull the end partially through the loop, over the first side of the loop and under the second. Do not pull it tight. The 3 to 4 inches of end you pull through will become the loop of the honda.
-
2
Push down on the base of the end section of rope where it overlaps the main section of rope. Pushing it down will put the end piece in the center of the loop, dividing the loop into two sections.

3
Bring the end section of rope over the first edge of the loop, over the dividing bit of rope and under the second edge of the loop. This pushes it through the upper section you created in the loop.
-
4
Tighten your honda knot by pulling up on the loop and down on the main rope section. Push the base of the knot toward the loop until it's snug, but not completely tight. Adjust the size of your honda loop by pulling more of the main rope into it.
-
5
Tighten the knot fully by pulling on the end section while pushing up on the base of the honda knot. The base of the knot needs to be level for it to be tight, and this can be difficult with stiffer ropes. In a rope you'll actually be using to rope anything, you'll need to tie a knot in the end section, to make sure it doesn't slip loose.
