1
Purchase a murder mystery game kit at your local toy store. If you can't find a Roman-themed one, buy a basic kit and change the settings and character names to reflect your theme. For example, try names like Brutus, Julius and Helena, and set scenes at different Roman landmarks.
-
2
Tell guests to come dressed in Roman costumes, like togas, sandals and leaf crowns. Give them their character cards a week before the party, so that they'll have plenty of time to pull their costumes together.

3
Decorate your house with Roman-inspired themes. Buy small, plastic Roman statues at your local crafts or gardening store. Hang white sheets on the walls and fake vines from the ceiling. Decorate the dinner table with a white sheet, wine goblets and more fake vines.
-
4
Prepare Roman foods. Red wine is a must, or red juice for kids. Serve cuts of seasoned meats, like shredded beef. Put out a few bowls of purple grapes and green olives, as well as a fruit tray.
-
5
Put on Roman-inspired music in the background. Ancient Roman music consisted of plucked string instruments, trumpets, flutes and some percussion. Download music and burn it to a CD, or head to your local music store and browse their selection to find the right tunes.
-
6
Dim the lights and set out candles. Because there was no electricity in Ancient Rome, having electric lights on can make your party lose some of its ambiance. Put candles in safe places where they won't catch anything on fire, and enjoy the soft lighting.
-
7
Follow the instructions accompanying your murder mystery kit, once guests arrive in character.
