      Unplug the electrical cord of the Kenmore 70 Series washing machine before attempting to take it apart.

      Remove the end caps from the control console by pressing in on the center of the caps with your thumbs and pulling out, away from the console to detach the caps.

      Locate the screws on the front of the control console and unfasten them with a screwdriver, setting the screws in a safe place.

      Flip the control console back so it is resting on the rear hinges, and unplug the lid switch from the top of the washer cabinet near the back.

      With a screwdriver, pry the metal clips off the top of the washer near the back, and lift the top lid of the washer off the cabinet base, setting it out of the way.
