The SIM card of a phone provides a way for your phone to connect to a wireless network. Though many networks, such as Sprint and Verizon, have abandoned the SIM card, some networks still use the identification devices. SIM cards work both in the United States and abroad while phones without a SIM card will not work abroad. Unfortunately, you must use the SIM card for most cell-phone functions. However, you can turn your Nokia phone to "offline" mode if you wish to use it without a SIM card.
Step 1
Turn your phone over and press the tab that releases the battery.

Lift the battery from the phone and set it aside.
Step 3
Place your finger on the SIM card and gently pull it from the phone. Replace the battery. Hold the power button on your phone to turn it on.
Step 4
Press the "Menu" button on your phone and scroll to "Tools." Scroll to the options that reads "Profile," then "Offline Profile." In the offline mode, you can connect to wireless Internet in order to perform typical phone functions. However, you cannot send SMS messages in this mode.
Step 5
Press the "Menu" button and scroll to "Tools" then "Profiles." Scroll to "Online Profile." Scroll to "Options" and then "Activate." This will turn your phone's signal back on. The phone will no longer perform functions that require a connection to the network, but you can use the games and applications of your phone.
