Whether you are flying or driving between cities on a getaway, it is ideal to estimate the distance so you can prepare for gas stops, hotel stops or determine total travel time. Plenty of online resources can calculate or estimate the distance between cities so you can make the most of your vacation. When you known the distance between cities, you are also able to estimate the cost of gas and accommodations so you can add it into your vacation budget if you are traveling long distance.

Travel Math

Visit the TravelMath website (see References).

Locate the Travel Calculator on the right side of the screen. Choose the calculations you want to know by selecting them from the drop-down tab. Choose from options such as driving distance, flight time or distance, fuel cost and driving time.

Choose the city you want to leave from and the city you want to arrive in. For example, to find the amount of distance between Los Angeles, California, and Denver, Colorado, choose “Driving Distance” from the drop-down tab, and write Los Angeles in the “From” and Denver in the “To."

Calculate the desired measurements. Using the example from Los Angeles to Denver, the estimated driving distance is 1,021 miles.

Geobytes

Visit the Geobytes City Distance Calculator website (see References).

Enter the origin and destination city into the marked boxes. For example, write Los Angeles in the “Origin City” and New York in the “Destination City."

Select the cities listed in the scrolling box that match your request. Since there is only one Los Angeles and New York City, they are listed alone. Click the “Find Distance” button on the lower right of the box.

Look at the estimated distance between the two cities, which are 2,451 miles apart.

Time and Date

Visit the Time and Date website (See References).

Estimate any city distance in the world by selecting them from the drop-down tab. For example, find the distance between Tokyo, Japan and Madrid, Spain. Select each of the cities in the “From Location” and “To Location." Click “Calculate distance."

Look at the distance between the cities, which is 6,703 miles. You may also look at the latitude and longitude of each city, as well as a Local Time Comparison to determine difference in time zones.
