Although your Dodge Dakota truck was equipped with factory speakers, installed when it was built, you may have a desire or need to install new speakers in the existing speaker locations. Maybe one of the original speakers is broken, or you just want to upgrade to the higher-quality sound of aftermarket models. Whatever the reason, you don't need to fear the work involved. With some basic tools, you'll get the job done right.
Things You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver
- Panel tool
- Torx T25 bit and driver
- Torx T47 bit and driver
Front Door Speakers
Loosen and remove the Phillips screws from the sail panel and the bottom edge of the door panel.
Insert the edge of your panel tool underneath the screw cover--a round plastic cover--located behind the door release. Pry the cover off. Loosen and remove the Torx T25 screw located underneath.
Lift the door panel off the door proper and set it aside.
Loosen and remove the three Phillips screws holding the speaker in place. Pull the speaker out and unplug the wiring connector on the back.
Plug the new speaker into the connector. Place the speaker in the opening and screw it in place. Test the speakers, then reassemble the door panel by reversing your steps.
Insert the end of the panel tool under the cover of the seat-belt hanger on the rear-quarter wall. Pry off the cover. Loosen and remove the T-47 bolt from underneath the cover.
Insert the panel tool behind the top edge of the rear quarter panel and pry the panel out, working down until you reach the speaker location.
Loosen and remove the two Phillips screws holding the speaker in place. Pull the speaker out of the opening and unplug the connector on the back.
Plug the connector into the new speaker, place the speaker in the opening and screw it in place.
Test the speaker and reassemble the panels, reversing your steps.
