How to Measure Fabric Curtains
When measuring fabric curtains, width is always measured first and length second. Be careful to write your numbers down in this order, or you'll end up with a strange looking curtain.
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the width of your window with the steel measuring tape from the outside of the molding on each side.
-
2
Round down the measurement from Step 1 to the nearest quarter inch. For example, if your windows measure 36 5/8 inches, round down to 36 1/2 inches.
-
-
3
Multiply Step 1 by 2.5 to get the fullness (the width of fabric needed for curtains).
-
4
Measure the length for your curtains. Measure from the top of the window molding to where you want your curtains to hang. For example, measure to the floor for floor-length curtains. If curtain rods are already installed, measure from the rod instead of the molding.
-
5
Round down the measurement from Step 4 to the nearest quarter inch. For example, if your curtains measure 84 3/8 inches, round down to 36 1/4 inches.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to use a steel measuring tape: cloth tapes don't always lay straight and you probably won't get an accurate reading.
