Beginner Tutorial for Flash 8
Flash 8 is used to create animation files. Your page will open with the tools panel on the left, timeline in the top/middle section, layers below the timeline, stage in the middle of your screen where you'll place your work, and actions panel below the stage. You can use Flash 8 to create motion and shape animations. You will need to group objects in a motion animation and break objects apart in a shape animation so they can function properly.

1
Open a new Flash document by selecting "File" and "New" from the toolbar in Flash. Then select the "Circle Tool" or "Rectangle Tool" from the tools panel.
-
2
Select the "Fill Color" button from the tools panel and pick a color for the inside of your shape. To leave the color unfilled, pick the "No Color" button while the "Fill Color" option is selected.
-
-
3
Select the "Stroke Color" button from the tools panel and pick a color for the border of your shape. If you'd prefer not to apply a stroke, choose the "No Stroke" button while the "Stroke Color" option is selected.
-
4
Use your mouse to draw the shape onto the stage. To draw a circle or square, hold down the "Shift" key as you draw the shape. If you'd prefer to draw an oval or rectangle, do not hold down the shift key. A keyframe (dot) will be added to "Layer 1" in the timeline.
-
5
Select the entire shape by selecting the keyframe. Then choose "Modify" and "Group" from the toolbar to group the shape.
-
6
Place your cursor in Frame 20 of the timeline. Select "Insert," "Timeline" and "Keyframe" from the toolbar to add a keyframe there.
-
7
Move the shape to a new location on the stage. Then return to the timeline, right-click anywhere between Frames 1 and 20 and choose "Create Motion Tween."
-
8
Open "Properties inspector" by selecting "Window" and then twice on "Properties" from the toolbar.
-
9
Add a new layer by selecting the "Insert Layer" button within the timeline. Then choose the "Text Tool" from the tools panel.
-
10
Select Frame 1 of "Layer 2," then place your cursor on the stage and type text in your work area.
-
11
Go to Frame 20 of "Layer 2" and insert a keyframe there.
-
12
Select the text on the stage for Frame 20 and add new text in its place. Pick a different color for the text from the properties inspector.
-
13
Select the text in the "Layer 2" under Frame 1. Then break it apart by choosing "Modify" and "Break Apart" from the toolbar (twice). Proceed to Frame 20 of the same layer and break the text apart twice as well.
-
14
Make sure "Layer 2" is selected. Then go to the properties inspector and select "Shape" from "Tween."
-
15
Select "Control" and "Text Movie" from the toolbar to preview your work.
-
16
Save your work by selecting "File" and "Save" from the toolbar. Then name your file and click on "Save."
-
17
Prepare the Flash document for the web by selecting "File" and "Publish Settings" from the toolbar. "Flash" and "HTML" will be selected by default within the "Formats" tab. Double-check that "Flash Only" is selected in the "HTML" tab. Then press "Publish" and "OK."
