How to Write an Online Newsletter
Whether for personal or business use, an on-line newsletter is a great way to promote yourself or your product and attract new readers to your website. However, even a monthly newsletter requires a lot of time and effort to compile. Before sending out your first on-line newsletter with the promise of more to come, be sure you have a solid template and several ideas for additional newsletters.

1
Decide on the purpose of your newsletter. If you have a blog or website, what information will the newsletter offer that those sites don't? The newsletter may be a way to share personal information with your readers, let them in on sales or discounts on your products or services they might not hear about otherwise, or give them access to guest articles that will not be made public.
-
2
Choose a few different section ideas for your newsletter. Newsletters do not have to be long, but must contain valuable content. A few section ideas are product reviews, a Question and Answer section for readers only, a survey, or coupons. Order these sections in your template so that your readers will know what to expect and where to find the information they want easily each time your newsletter arrives.

3
Create a template for your newsletter. You can choose text only, HTML or both. If you do not have experience with HTML, websites like Templates Box and Interspire offer free newspaper template downloads. As you design your template, keep in mind your brand and logo. You may want to give your newsletter a similar look to that of your website.
-
4
Create a permanent sidebar in the template that includes your logo and a prominent link to your website or blog. Also consider including additional contact information, a privacy guarantee statement, and a link with an unsubscribe option.
-
5
Write an outline for your first three newsletters. You may have a lot of ideas for the first newsletter, then find it trickles off, so this is a good way to discover whether you have enough valuable content to offer a regular newsletter.
-
6
Write your first newsletter, filling in the template with the sections you've created. For continuity, give each section a title that will remain the same in each newsletter, such as "Quick Tips" or "Weekly Promo Codes."

Tips & Warnings
Try to include some valuable information in each newsletter that is not available on your website or anywhere else. If readers don't believe your newsletter has anything different or unique to offer, they will not subscribe.
