How to Draw Tulips & Flowers
Drawing is an art form employed by numerous artists. Cartoonists and drafters rely on drawing to create their work. Painters sketch out a draft in pencil before applying paint to canvas. Drawing can be relaxing and enjoyable and does not require much preparation. To draw flowers you need only a pencil, paper on which to sketch, an eraser, and a flower from which to draw inspiration whether it be fresh from the garden, a photo, or a photocopy made from an online site.

1
Find inspiration and examples. Search your surroundings and online for examples of flowers you like. Print out pictures, or shoot your own photos, and use those as a guide.
-
2
Consider the size of your image. If you'd like your drawing to be larger than the reference, keep that in mind as you draw.

3
Draw the outline of the flower first, making sure to follow its curves. Sketch with smooth lines, not hard, jerky ones. Do not press too hard when making the outline or your final result will seem too much like a cartoon flower.
-
4
Begin shading by using the side of the pencil lead. The harder you press the pencil, the darker the shading will be. To shade, use quick, small strokes and slowly build your way around the flower, using more lines in the areas that you want to look darker.
-
5
Erase slightly any edges that are too dark and give the flower a cartoon drawing appearance.
-
6
Draw stems, if any, using the same technique used to draw the flower.
