How to Decorate Pumpkins
It is not fall until you've gone to the grocery store or a local farm and picked out the largest, healthiest looking pumpkin you can find. Scoop out the seeds and flesh to use to make pumpkin pie and toasted pumpkin seeds and save the shell for festive Halloween and Thanksgiving decor. You can decorate a pumpkin by carving shapes in its shell, painting it or by gluing fabric and other materials to its outside. Set aside an evening or two and decorate pumpkins with your family and friends.

Instructions
-
Carve a Pumpkin
-
1
Cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin, around the stem to create a lid for your pumpkin. Set the lid aside.
-
2
Scoop out the pumpkin's flesh and seeds with the pumpkin scoop. Either set aside to use in recipes or discard.
-
-
3
Draw a pattern on the outside of the pumpkin. You can stick with the basics and draw the classic Jack O'Lantern face, with triangles for its eyes and nose and a mouth with square teeth. You can also draw an abstract pattern in the pumpkin or a Halloween themed object, such as a bat or spider.
Paint Your Pumpkin
-
4
Spray paint the pumpkin so that it is one uniform color. You can also leave the pumpkin in its natural state if you want.
-
5
Draw a pattern or picture on the pumpkin. If it is after Halloween, you can draw a Thanksgiving turkey or Pilgrim's hat on the pumpkin. You can also paint a silly monster face on the pumpkin for Halloween. If you do not trust your drawing abilities, tape a stencil to the pumpkin and trace it with a marker.
-
6
Paint the picture or pattern. Embellish the design by gluing feathers, sequins or glitter to the pumpkin. Use a glue that will not wash away if it gets wet in the rain.
