How to Remove the Desktop_ Ini Virus
The "Desktop_ini" virus (officially named W32.Fujacks.E) places an "INI" file on your hard drive and, in doing so, infects executables on your hard drive. The most commonly infected application is the "NTBackup" software, which is a Windows application that backs up servers and client desktops. When the user attempts to make a backup, the software returns an error. Remove the Desktop_ini virus with a combination of scanning your hard drive with an anti-virus software and manually removing registry entries.

1
Close NTBackup if you have it open. Click the Windows "Start" button and enter "desktop_.ini" into the search text box. Delete any instances of "Desktop_.ini" on the hard drive.
-
2
Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Properties." Click the "System Restore" tab and select "Turn off System Restore." Click "OK" to save your settings.

3
Update your virus definition files. Each anti-virus application provides you with the latest virus definition files, which are used to find the newest malicious software. Download the latest files and install them onto your machine, following the manufacturer-specific instructions.
-
4
Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Run." Enter "regedit" into the text box and click "OK" to open the Windows registry. Navigate to the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" registry key. Right key the key labeled ""svcshare"='%System%\Drivers\spoclsv.exe'" and select "Delete."
-
5
Run a full virus scan on your machine using your antivirus software (see References--simply download the software, follow the on-screen instructions and allow the program to run). With the virus definition files updated, the antivirus software on your machine is able to remove the "desktop_ini" virus. After the full scan finishes, reboot the machine.
