How to Troubleshoot DHCP Client Service That Won't Start in Windows Vista

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, or DHCP, is a core service in the Windows Vista operating system that is required to auto-assign the Internet protocol and other networking information to your computer. Troubleshooting the DHCP service is necessary when you boot your computer one day to find an error message stating it refuses to start. If this happens, use System Restore to undo the changes that rendered the DHCP service impotent.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start." Type "System Restore" in the "Search" box and press "Enter."

    • 2

Click "Use a different restore point."

    • 3

Click a restore point prior to the time you began having problems starting the DHCP service.

    • 4

Press "Next" to restore your computer.
