How to Find a Car Pool

How to Find a Car Pool thumbnail
Carpooling helps save gas money and protects the environment.

There are many reasons why carpooling might be a good idea for you. You won't have to fight rush hour traffic every day on your way to work. You can save on gas money, and you'll be helping protect the environment. Plus, you'll be able to use the carpool lane on your way to work, which can help you get there faster. Once you decide that carpooling is the right choice for your situation, you need to find people to participate who are either driving to your workplace or in the same direction as you drive each day.

Instructions

    • 1

Start by checking with people at work. No matter what type of company you work for, there are most likely large groups of people arriving at work at the same time. Send out an email or memo asking people who live near you to participate in a carpool. Be sure to include your neighborhood and the general area where participants should live, such as within a four-block radius of your house.

    • 2

Contact other companies near your place of work. The accounting firm next door and the coffee shop across the street might have workers who live near you and are interested in joining a carpool. Start by contacting the owners or managers of the company and request they send out a memo, email or notice to employees about your carpool. Be sure to supply the managers or owners with a draft of your notice.

Talk to your neighbors. Ask people in your neighborhood if they work near you and if they'd be interested in joining a carpool. If you have an organized community group, such as a neighborhood watch group, use that as a resource. Contact the organizer and ask that a notice with information about your carpool be sent out to all members. Don't forget to include the address of where you work.

Use online resources to find people interested in carpooling. Many websites exist for precisely this purpose, such as CarpoolConnect.com, eRideShare.com and GoLoco.com. Each website has different features, but they all allow you to search for people in your area who may be able to join your carpool.
