1
Find a sturdy wooden box for your homemade rabbit trap. Remember that you are going to catch a wild rabbit so make sure that the box is really strong. It has to contain the rabbit and prevent him from escaping once he's caught. Wild rabbits have strong teeth so they can easily chew through cardboard and thin wooden boxes.

2
Place the box in your backyard or wherever you want to catch the rabbit. Make sure that the location is undisturbed and out of reach of your children, dog or other animals. When setting traps, it is imperative to consider the safety of others in the environment.

3
Lift the box carefully and prop a strong thick stick under it to hold its side in a lifted position. The stick must be long so the box will be lifted high enough for the rabbit to crawl inside. The wooden stick must be strong enough to support the heavy wooden box as well.

4
Put some food under the box for bait, placing it so that the rabbit has to crawl deep inside the box to get it. Use a carrot or celery as bait and ensure that it is fresh, since its smell will attract the rabbit.
-
5
Tie a piece of rope or a strong string to the top end of the wooden stick and the bait. You can also use a strong fishing line instead of a rope. Tie strong and secure knots since this is an essential point when it comes to catching the rabbit. You can even tie a few different strings to ensure that the rabbit will pull them when moving and chewing the bait.
-
6
Wait until the wild rabbit walks under the wooden box and chews the bait, which will move the stick and make the box fall on top of him.

Tips & Warnings
Experiment with different types of food if the trap is not a success in the beginning. Alternative bait choices include cabbage, cucumbers and other crunchy vegetables.
Always wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and antibacterial soap after touching a wild rabbit or a rabbit trap, to prevent catching a disease.
