Creating a curriculum vitae

A curriculum vitae (CV) is a document that acts like a resume--it introduces you to employers, and is usually the first thing the employer considers when you apply for a job. When writing a CV for a marketing position, it's important to include the experiences you've had in the field and the achievements you've made, as well as skills you can contribute to the new position. Your marketing CV should include the creative and analytical experiences you've had that are relevant to the position.

Instructions

    • 1

Write your name and address at the top of the page. You should write your name in the first line by itself, then your address in the next line. Include personal contact information, such as your mailing address, email address and phone number where the employer can reach you.

    • 2

Write the heading "Objective," then in the line below that, write a brief paragraph about your background as well as your goals. This paragraph should be about three lines, and should contain any degrees you've completed, as well as why you're interested in a position with this particular company. Summarize your years of experience in numerical form. Tailor your resume to target the job description, and don't forget to mention you're seeking a marketing position.

    • 3

Write the heading "Work Experience," and list your professional experience in descending chronological order. Make sure to give preference to your previous marketing experience. Each work experience should include the dates you were employed next to your place of employment. The next three lines should list your responsibilities, in bullet form. In marketing, the results of projects and marketing campaigns are given importance, since this demonstrates your ability to manage projects. Include quantitative data about your experiences whenever possible.

    • 4

Write the heading "Skills and Qualifications." This should include any software and technical skills you have in addition to what you've written as your work experience. This can include knowledge of software used in marketing, which may cover statistical software, such as SPSS, or customer relationship management applications, as well as direct marketing programs. These skills can be an added plus that will help boost your resume.

    • 5

Write the heading "Education," and list the schools you've attended and the dates, as well as the degrees you've completed. Write down your most recent academic experience, then write the rest in descending order.

    • 6

Format your CV by tweaking the font sizes and adding font styles to make it easy to read. Each heading should be written in a bigger font than the rest of the body, and it should be in bold. Your name should have the biggest font in the whole document to make sure employers will remember your name.
