Becoming a notary in Butler County allows you to oversee signatures.

A notary is a person who is legally certified to oversee the signatures of a legal document. In Butler County, Ohio you can become a certified notary if you are over the age of 18 and a resident of the state of Ohio. Non-residents can become notaries if they have passed the Ohio bar examination. Additionally, you must not have any major criminal convictions and be able to read and write English. If you meet these qualifications, you can become a notary by passing a 25-question examination covering the notary manual and paying a $55 fee.

Instructions

      Print the notary affidavit and application (see Resources) and fill in your personal details. Bring the completed form to a registered notary and have them both signed.

      Review the notary manual to prepare for the examination. It is a fairly short manual, so you should not have much trouble reading all of the material it contains.

      Schedule a notary test by calling the Butler County Bar Association at 513-896-6671. Tests are available on Monday through Thursday at 9:30 A.M. until 3:00 P.M.

      Go to the Butler County Bar Association's office, located at:

      Submit your notorized application and affidavit and pay the $55 fee. Payment can be made in the form of a check or money order.

      Complete the test provided by the the bar association. You must score at least 72 percent in order to pass the examination. If you pass, you will receive your notary certification.
