How to Get Rid of Ant Hills

Getting rid of ant hills doesn't require chemicals.

Ant hills that are located in your yard can damage and kill the grass. The ants that have made the hill eventually could find their way into your house. There are a variety of chemical treatments you can use to kill ant hills in your yard. Using these methods to get rid of ant hills may not be ideal if you have pets or children playing in your yard on a daily basis.

Things You'll Need

• Water
• Cooking pot
• Stove

Instructions

1. Pour at least three gallons of water into a cooking pot.

2. Place the pot full of water on your stove and heat the water until it boils. Make sure that the water comes to a complete boil.

3. Take the boiling pot of water to the ant hill while the water is still boiling.

4. Pour the boiling water onto the ants slowly in order to cover the complete ant hill.

5. Inspect the lawn. Repeat the process if you still notice the ant hill.

Tips & Warnings

• Cayenne pepper and lemon juice (natural or bottled) can be added to the water pre-boil in order to get rid of stubborn ant hills.

• Wearing cooking mitts, long pants, long sleeves and shoes/boots can protect while you pour the boiling water.

• Pour the boiling water onto the ant hill carefully, as the hot water can damage your grass.
