How to Clean Old Parquet Floors
Old parquet flooring offers elegance and charm to any home. Parquet is hardwood flooring made up of geometrical patterns to create a unique appearance. Parquet wood flooring is durable and long-lasting, but care must be taken when cleaning so the wood is not damaged. Things You'll Need
- Vacuum cleaner with hard floor setting or soft broom
- Bucket
- Water
- Sponge or rag mop
- ½ cup white vinegar

Vacuum the floor thoroughly. Use a soft broom or vacuum cleaner with a hard floor setting to remove loose dirt, dust and debris.

Fill a bucket with warm water. Dip a sponge or rag mop into the water and wring it out well. It is important that the mop only be slightly damp; too much water on parquet floors may cause damage or warping.

Mop the entire floor with the damp mop. Rinse and wring out the mop often while cleaning. Overlap your mop strokes to ensure that no area of the floor is missed while cleaning. Allow the floor to air-dry.

Combine ½ cup white vinegar with 1 gallon warm water for cleaning especially dirty parquet floors. Mop the floor in the same manner as you would with plain water. Allow the floor to air-dry.
