How to Change the Diablo2 CD Key
Released on June 29, 2000, Blizzard's Diablo 2 continues to be a popular multiplayer game on the game developer's Battle.net server. An action role-playing game (RPG), Diablo 2 is available as part of the Diablo 2 Battlechest edition, which includes the Diablo 2 expansion pack, Lord of Destruction, and the Diablo 2 Official Strategy Guide. In order to play Diablo 2, each game installation requires a unique CD key. You cannot install or play the game without a valid product key.

Back Up Your Saved Games

Click on "Start." Type "explorer" and click on "Windows Explorer" if using Windows Vista or Windows 7. Click on "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Windows Explorer" if using Windows XP.

Navigate to the directory where you have installed Diablo 2. (By default, the installer creates a "Diablo II" folder in the "Program Files" directory. Due to the age of the software, it does not create a folder in the "Users" directory if using Windows Vista or Windows 7.)

Open the "Diablo II" folder. Right-click on the "Save" folder. Click on "Copy."

Close the Windows Explorer window and return to your desktop. Right-click on an empty space on your desktop and click on "Paste."
Uninstall and Reinstall

Log in to an administrator-level account.

Click on "Start," then "Control Panel." Click on "Classic View" in the left column, if applicable.

Find "Diablo II" in the list of installed programs. Double-click it.

Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the uninstallation process.

Click on "Start." Type "explorer" and click on "Windows Explorer" if using Windows Vista or Windows 7. Click on "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Windows Explorer" if using Windows XP.

Navigate to the directory where you have installed Diablo 2. (By default, the installer creates a "Diablo II" folder in the "Program Files" directory.)

Right-click on the "Diablo II" folder in the left column on the Windows Explorer window and click on "Delete." Confirm the folder deletion and restart your computer.

Insert the Diablo 2 installation disc once you have returned to the desktop. The Diablo 2 setup program will automatically begin.

Follow the onscreen prompts to install Diablo 2. Input your new Diablo 2 CD key when the installation program directs you to do so. Complete the installation.

Return to the desktop. Right-click on the "Save" folder and click on "Copy."

Open Windows Explorer again according to the directions in Step 5, and return to the new Diablo 2 directory.

Right-click on the "Diablo 2" folder in the left column and click on "Paste."
